The GlassFish ESB Suite can be used to develop and deploy Composite Applications, a cornerstone of SOA. It has the integration, connectivity and management functionality necessary to develop artifacts in the lower 3 of the 4 SOA Layers. To complete the stack, and provide artifacts in the SOA 1 (Presentation Layer) requires additional technologies. One assumes that a web-based user interface is what one would choose to develop a presentation layer of the composite application. One assumes further that the Composite Applications with the Web-based User Interface will be exposed through a standards-compliant Portal infrastructure as standards-compliant portlets, rather then stand-alone web applications.

This document walks through the process of installing the Sun WebSpace Server 10 Portal to the GlassFish ESB v2.1 installation and addition of Portal Pack tooling to the NetBeans 6.5 tooling packaged with the GalssFish ESB v2.1.

Not that this affects going to the link, but the mediacast site misspelled "server" as "Sewrver"

    Thanks, Nick.
Spelling mistakes are all mine, I am afraid 🙁

I want to experiment with ESB & PORTAL . Can we use GF V3 , Netbeans 6.8 . What’s the current state &/ the best way to have both working.

I am not really an expert on the combinations of things. I tend to go with the flow, so:

GlassFish ESB v2.2 uses GlassFish App Server 2.2.1 (if memory serves).
This tells me that the WebSpace Server has to be the variant that works with GlassFish v2.2.1 (v3 is out because GlassFish ESB does not support it).

GlassFishESB v2.2 uses : NetBeans 6.7.1 so the question, to which I don’t have an authoritative answer, is whether WebSpace Server cares (as I expect it not to). I expect, without proof, that you can use any version of NetBeans to develop and deploy portlets for WebSpace Server. I could be wrong.

With GlassFish ESB v2.2 as the lowest common denominator the questions on WebSpace Server compatibility with that should go to the users@webspace.dev.java.net list.

Again, I go along the lines of the least resistance – I install the GlassFish ESB package, which provides NetBeans and GlassFish App Server, then install "WebSpace Server distribution for installation in an existing GlassFish Application Server v2" over the top of that. This worked well for me for GlassFish ESB v2.1.

I am sorry I can not give you the definitive answer. Perhaps the WebSpace Server folks will.

    Regards

    Michael
